Founded 1769 as Faculty of Medicine of the Pázmány Péter University, now Eötvös Lóránd, detached and re-established as separate Institution 1951. Due to changes in the Hungarian higher education system, Semmelweis University of Medicine, The College of Health Care of Haynal Imre University and the Hungarian University of Physical Education and Sport Sciences merged as Semmelweis University and acquired present status and title 2000. Under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture and Education.
